Overview

Bite N Eat Dindigul Biriyani, located at 43 Lebuh Penang in the heart of George Town, Penang, offers a remarkable South Indian culinary experience that stands out prominently. Specializing in authentic Dindigul-style biryani, this restaurant is a gem for those seeking bold flavors crafted with tradition and care. The use of Seeraga Samba rice, a native variety from Tamil Nadu, gives their biryani a distinct texture and aroma that sets it apart from the typical Basmati-based biryanis. The dish is accompanied by classic sides like raita, sambar, and payasam, each complementing the main course and enhancing the overall taste journey.

The space strikes a balance between comfort and simplicity, with attentive staff ensuring prompt service and an inviting atmosphere. The restaurant’s clean, well-maintained setting adds to the overall dining pleasure, making it a welcoming stop for both casual diners and biryani enthusiasts. The menu extends well beyond biryani, showcasing South Indian staples such as the flavorful Pallipalayam Chicken Curry, the crispy and flaky Aloo Parotta, and the vibrant Veg Chettinadu, all of which highlight the region’s culinary richness.

One of the restaurant’s unique selling points is its unwavering dedication to authenticity. High-quality ingredients, many imported from India, are used to preserve the integrity of the flavors. This commitment is evident in dishes like the Chennai-style mutton biryani, praised for its depth and spice, and the varied chicken gravies which marry creamy textures with aromatic spices like fenugreek. The inclusion of regional beverages such as Chukkumalli Coffee and Jigirthanda completes the cultural dining experience, appealing to those seeking a true taste of South India.

Bite N Eat caters to a diverse audience—from South Indian expatriates craving a nostalgic meal to adventurous food lovers exploring authentic Indian cuisine in Malaysia. The restaurant’s recognition with a Michelin star across consecutive years reflects its culinary excellence and consistent quality. Diners consistently praise the robust spice profile and the genuine cooking methods that resist watering down to suit milder palates, delivering instead an unfiltered and rich experience.

In summary, Bite N Eat Dindigul Biriyani is not just another biryani joint. It is a destination that honors tradition, elevates South Indian flavors, and offers a memorable dining experience set within the vibrant cultural fabric of George Town. Whether you come for the iconic biryani, the succulent mutton meals, or the varied vegetable and bread options, this restaurant promises authenticity delivered with warmth and precision.

As the Tamils say, "SUPER ANNA!". What a brilliant dining experience at a Michelin star rated South Indian restaurant - the Bite N Eat Dindigul Biriyani! DON'T go by the name of the restaurant, which sounds a bit tacky! The food is tasty, delicious, aromatic, SO authentic & absolutely mouth watering! It is very obvious that the ownership is doing everything possible to maintain their high quality standards and also ensure that the ingredients used are all imported from India. One of the most aromatic & tasty South Indian cuisine that I have tasted internationally, until date! Anyone wanting a true & authentic (NOT MELLOWED/TONED down from a spice level perspective) , you should most certainly visit this restaurant in Little India, Old George Town, Penang. As a South Indian, I am SO PROUD of the owners for achieving Michelin star rating for consecutive THREE years!

The unique character would be the seeraga samba rice. I must admit this is the first time I am eating this rice variety which is from Tamil Nadu. All my other experience with biriyani has been mostly basmathi. The biriyani dish as a whole looks different, it's of a lighter shade here, has a more subtle taste and the rice is a little stickier and clumpier than the basmathi I am used to. It comes with 3 small bowls containing raitha, sambar and payasam. Payasam, sweet milk with small pieces of vermicelli and sago should be taken after you finish the biriyani and not mixed with the biriyani as gravy. The raitha and sambar meanwhile are to be used to flavour the biriyani. The chicken itself may look light in colour but was perfectly cooked. Tender, juicy and well marinated. As a whole the biriyani was tasty and the portions filling. The mutton kebab I found a little on the tough side but the spice and flavours were spot on, especially when dabbed with the mint sauce. As for the tandoori and the mushroom 65, both done beautifully. Delicious and freshly prepared. They definitely provided a much enjoyable complementary flavour and protein for an enjoyable meal. In the end, their biriyani uses a different rice with a different spice profile and this is where their uniqueness lies.

The people working there were amazing. They were helpful, friendly, and quick to serve us. The lady wearing a tudung was extra helpful. I definitely want to go back!
